Score: 7; I always avoided disagreements and conflicts while growning up. Whenever I’d be in an argument with my family or friends, I’d often times swallow up my opinion and just go along. The reason behind this was because I had a misconception that opinionating my ideas and thoughts will break my relationships with friends and family.
Since last year, I’ve been part of a side project called Aldoggo (aldoggo.academy) with my peers from Berkeley. We’ve been creating an educational platform that teaches various web 3.0 concepts in simple terms. After a years worth of hard work, we were able to successfully launch the platform and the project have been recognized by the Algorand Foundation ever since.
Because our team consisted of only 6 members, every voice mattered. We were all busy with either work or school and were not able to perform 100% everyday. Thus, when we gathered during the weekend, it was important that we talked.
Due to the fact that I was surrounded by close friends, I began to break out of my shell and voice my opinion. When I did, I’ve learned that relationships do not break from simple disagreements. In fact, we were able to know more about each other and bring up valuable ideas that were built on top of each other.
I’m still in the process of getting comfortable with disagreeing. However, now that I know the value that conflicting ideas and disagreements bring, I am willing to actively opinionate my ideas. | |||
