We need to keep improving the chain so it’s more stable and less prone to attacks and downtime. In the meantime, rpc service and other tools like explorer and wallets are also critical in determining the user experience. For bridges, we should evaluate between keep building on our isolated bridges vs adoption other existing cross-chain solutions such as layerzero, which has the top-notch team and a good product offering.

we haven’t put enough resource on networking and devops. single node optimization has the upper bound limit. blockchain is the decentralized network, networking is almost the most important infra for any blockchain if we want to scale.

As the guy who didn’t know how to spell “block-chain” 5 year ago: Bridges: I view this from an industry perspective that Harmony must connect with all chains. Protocol: still at the core of what we do and we need to invest in nurturing the chain. For Tools and Services, I voted -10 to communicate that we should externalize those as much as we reasonably can. Maybe not in 6 weeks, but definitely start and move that way within 1 quarter to continue executing within 1 year. ZK: still early so now is the time to keep betting resources on it so that we can be ahead of the curve.

On the protocol front, we need majority of the resources to complete cross-shard, resharding, and future optimizations like stateless clients and pruning. Allocating 20% to bridges based on the strategy that we will work with external teams to build the bridges to various chains and internally we may not need more resources in which case. If we cannot find (or slower to find) the external teams then i would put 40% resources (20% borrowed from tools & services). Since we have already hired a handful for devop engineers, we should be good there. With regards to ZK, we need more like applied cryptographers and implementors more than researchers.

Let’s make sure we have a state-of-the-art reliable protocol and give the tools to he ecosystem to build on top of it

Cross-shard. 24/7 uptime. RPC resolved. We have the best fundamentals and potential in blockchain. Let’s focus on delivering on our promise. Let’s also make sure that - as an open platform - anyone can build. Let’s make it as easy as possible to find good documentation, good apis, and good tooling necessary to do whatever it is a builder needs to do so that we aren’t the only one building things.

I don’t see an immediate ROI on zk products. Our secret weapon is our protocol and it’s plenty fast. With upcoming features such as 1s finality and cross-shard transactions, it will be the fastest and most scaleable in the business.

Our core protocol and its associated network is a must have, a network may work but would still seem broken if the RPCs are laggy and not functional. Bridges are still at the beginning and we need at some point to be able to interface with all chain

We’re fairly mature on the chain, hence less emphasis on compilers or docs (others can write for us), but there are improvements around cross shards necessary (protocols). Bridges across all chain means we have to figure out what TCP/IP looks like. ZK Proofs will be the next compression tech (Winzip)

I am going to leave my polling blank because I don’t believe I am qualified enough to answer why we would need one category more than another. It is my belief that only the people that are in the weeds building should be answering this question... I know marketing and content, I leave the tech up to the professionals.

Continue building on the protocol first and foremost with great marketing behind it to explain why Harmony is one of the best chains out there. Continue building more bridges and ensure our network and infrastructure is stable. We’ve lost enough potential apps to other chains because of network issues.

I am also abstaining due to lack of expertise. However I will say that choosing a tech to focus on will help with brand identity and messaging.

I do not feel my vote is as meaningful as those who spend the bulk of their time building, as I do not know their bottlenecks nor the cost to Harmony to invest in their staffing. But my inclination is to focus on protocol first to maximizer current efforts, but continue to carve bandwidth for ZK and other forward-thinking initiatives so we are always ahead of the curve.

While I agree that tools and protocol infra are absolutely necessary, I do not have the experience to delegate our engineers’ time. Abstaining.

I would like to place some more emphasis on tooling and documentation at this stage. I have seen how many repetitive questions we get in #developers, Even though we have full Ethereum compatibility, not everything is plug and play, which it should be

We have to focus on core protocol, make it stable, safe and reduce downtimes. Later we can focus on bridges, services and especially cryptography.

Tools like infura-equivalent service and upgrades for explorer are quite important. Service uptime and bridges security are critical too

Protocol, bridges and improving our services (mainly RPCs) are of primary importance, and require us to bring on more talent to specifically focus on these areas. Improving our protocol, and building bridges is important if Harmony aims to “Bridge to all chains”, and RPCs seem to be a common pain point and area of discontent from our community members which should be addressed.

Have to believe that all of these are just as important to the future of this chain as the other. Protocol and Bridges is what makes Harmony, Harmony. Tools and Services make it easy (easier) for builders and users to come explore. ZK-Proofs are the next step.

I think I should have quadratic voting penalty here as the Devs likley know where they need help the most. I agree with Mikey from an opinionated standpoint as all areas seem equally important.

Deliver the promise of 1 second finality across all 4 shards and bridges to other chains. Play to our strengths and bring value from other chains. Tools and Services are also important ZK research is DEEP and if we want to seriously lead this area of research and development we would need a lot of heavy investment. Whether we can be world’s best in this space is challenging; however the tech can be brought on after refinement on other chains.

I’m always of the mindset to have one eye on the present and another eye on the future: a dual investment in both our protocol right now and ZK for the future ensures we are giving strong efforts on both the “defense and offense.”
