Promoting an ethical, equality-driven future for all.”

Devin P. Marty is an author and web3 advocate dedicated to reinventing the world by virtue of ethical and equitable technologies.

Devin has authored two books on the topic of decentralization, including "The Decision-Making Employee" an Amazon Bestseller that examines decentralized organizations through discussion with industry experts, and demonstrates – in the age of remote working and increased autonomy – how employees can not only use their decision-making privilege to succeed professionally but also extract greater purpose and enjoyment from their work.

June 2022 Goals and Deliverables - Complete and Graded

May 2022 Goals and Deliverables - Complete and Graded

April 2022 Goals and Deliverables - Complete and Graded

March 2022 Goals and Deliverables - Complete and Graded

February 2022 Goals and Deliverables - Complete and Graded

MAD NFTs Support - 90%
  • MADinART NFT Marketplace Liaison for mainnet Launch
  • MADinART Feature artist identification
  • MADinART PR and AMA coordination
DAO Operations - 70%
  • DAO Tooling organization and onboarding of new DAO tools
  • Identify and onboard DAO Tooling team
  • A-DAO Event support with Daniel
ETHDenver Events - 100%
  • ETHDenver Metaverse Event
  • Project X in ETHDenver with Sam
  • Breckenridge TGI and Events

Three areas to grade from February:

DAO Ops: Identified a number of DAO tools and coordinated 1 integration (Grindery Chrome extension, with full integration coming this month), still know I have a lot of growth opportunity and happy to see that progress already being made in March: 7/10

MAD NFT Liaison: Successfully aided in mainnet launch in accordance with set timeline. PR and AMAs are scheduled and on track. I could have done a better job at identifying artists to transition from Davinchi to MAD, but the five that I did will be a great start (according to community members): 9/10

ETH Denver events team: Conducted a graceful execution of our events plan and pivoted successfully when issue arose, both in Denver and Breckenridge: 10/10

My transition to Harmony has been very good and the team has made it very easy for me.

conversation turn taking
9 - I admire active listening in others and practice it daily.
During an improvisation course offered by the University of Rochester, my instructor, professor John Forrest Thompson, told me that listening is more than just about perceiving with our ears. he said to “listen with your eyes.” We don’t always say what we mean, and there is a lot you can gather from a person’s body language. if you are not present in that moment to observe their body language, you might not be getting all of the information you need. it is also important to listen for silence for the same reason. Without listening, you would have two actors building their own two worlds on a single stage. These two worlds would be wildly inconsistent with each other. Without a universal constant (to continue the metaphor), the universe they built would collapse. you cannot have two separate ideas going on in the same space; listening actively and building off of the last idea that was brought forward is how two (or more) people collaborate.
disconfirm own beliefs
7 - While I’m not the best at it, I am always listening to contrarian remarks or critiques and welcome ideas that are better than my own.

In the summer of 2019, I applied for a brand ambassador position at a small company called Drink simple. i was excited to try my hand at sales and to work for a company whose product i had been enjoying for a long time. little did i know that due to a lack of staff in the Rochester, new york area, my responsibilities would entail much more than handing out samples at the grocery store. To clarify, Drink simple is not a decentralized organization, but it is a smaller company where every employee has a good degree of decision-making capability, which can certainly make it feel decentralized; nevertheless, it’s close enough that a parallel can be drawn and a lesson learned. After a couple of phone interviews, I landed the job, or should i say, job(s). I was responsible not only to sell to grocery store goers but also to grocery store managers. This meant my role in the company more closely resembled that of a local brand manager for the entire Rochester area. The perks were that i would have the freedom to choose my own hours and decide which locations to sell to. This opportunity was amazing but also nerve-racking. What did i know about making high-volume sales, especially when selling to clients like Walmart? sure, i understood the principles from taking a few marketing classes, but in reality, it was a steep learning curve. So lots of freedom and little clue. You might be wondering what i did in this situation. Fortunately for me, a much more experienced employee named Tim Capalbo extended a helping hand. Tim told me that with the company looking to expand, this job was going to require a lot of time, skill, and effort, and that he would be around whenever I needed guidance. Tim had been in my position before, and so he knew that i would be capable of learning the ins and outs of the industry if i communicated quickly and followed his advice. so i buckled down and took his promise literally. almost every working day that summer, i was on the phone with Tim asking for his advice. He became my coach and made my onboarding process much easier. he also kept me accountable, and i worked harder for sales because i didn’t want to disappoint him, despite the times when my inexperience shone through. Something that i did not expect is that when I would mess up, he vouched for me to the CEO, explaining that I had my head in the right place, which he must have gathered from our almost daily conversations. The following week, i came to realize that i was grateful for taking his advice and feedback because it had guided me to my first successful sale with Walmart. This is living proof for how rewarding it can be to have a trusted and experienced person in your corner; coaching you through your ups and downs.

I once had to make a decision to leave a company I helped to build after learning that the founder was breaking the law. I could have very very easily turned an eye from it, since I was the only one who knew. But, I knew I had to leave the minute I found out – and I did in that instant.
